by Marilyn Humbert

the rumble of her feline song
slips between my thumbs
this love like the wind
catches me unaware
like moonbeams
on midnight’s lake
soundless
as moth wings
about the lantern’s bright beam
and I’m lifted
where the flight of wild ducks
sweep clouds from autumn’s sky

in a moment her tail flicks
and I’m dismissed
this love
the many colours
of a setting sun
